OSMH announces list of recommended candidates to fill Board vacancies

(Friday, April 28, 2017 - Orillia, ON) – The Orillia Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital (OSMH) Board of Directors has released their list of recommended candidates to fill the anticipated vacancies on the Board this summer. The recommendation will be considered by the hospital’s corporate members at the Annual General Meeting (AGM) on June 27, 2017.

Four candidates are being recommended for terms of three years each, while three candidates are being recommended for a period of two years each, completing the terms of vacated Board positions. 

The seven candidates recommended by the Nominating Committee and approved by the Board are:

Karen Barrer -

Ms. Barrer’s background includes more than 30 years of executive experience with industry leaders such as IBM, Hewlett Packard and Intria HP (a CIBC company).  With a focus on driving operational improvements and increasing customer satisfaction, Ms. Barrer operates her own independent consulting firm (Karen Barrer Consulting Inc.) helping to transition and transform large organizations.  She is a resident of Washago, ON and is being recommended for a 3-year term.       

 

Mario Benedetto -

Mr. Benedetto has extensive project management and business development skills with more than 30 years of progressive experience with organizations such as Canadian National Railways, Fowler Construction, Ontario Northland Transportation Commission, and Baseline Construction and Project Management.  He has a proven financial and analytical track record with a strong results-oriented approach toward achieving business plans and strategic goals.   Mr. Benedetto is a resident of Bracebridge, ON and is being recommended for 2 years.

 

Daniel Germain*-

Mr. Germain is seeking a second term. He was first elected to the Board in 2014 and currently serves as 1st Vice Chair, and is Chair of the Resources Committee. A chartered professional accountant by profession, he has over 25 years of healthcare experience, having held senior management positions at hospitals across the province.

 

Margaret Martin -

Ms. Martin brings an extensive background in provincial finance regulations through employment at the London Regional Tax Office and federal safety management systems at the St. Thomas Municipal Airport.  Now retired, she is also a former Executive Director of the St. Thomas Seniors’ Centre.  Ms. Martin is a resident of Kilworthy, ON and is being recommended for two years.

  

John Mattinson -

Mr. Mattinson joined the OSMH Board of Directors in 2016, filling a mid-year vacancy that is now being brought forward for corporate member approval.  He is highly respected for his 30 year career with Orillia Power Corporation, from which he retired as President in 2011.  This June, Mr. Mattinson will complete ten years of service as a member of the OSMH Foundation Board of Directors, where he served as Vice-Chair for 7 years.  Mr. Mattinson is a resident of Orillia and is being recommended to complete the final two years of the term he began in mid-2016.   

 

Al Scott* -

Mr. Scott is seeking a third term on the Board.  He was first elected in 2011 and re-elected in 2014 and currently serves as 2nd Vice Chair.  Mr. Scott works at the provincial headquarters of the O.P.P. and is a resident of Orillia, and is being recommended for a 3-year term.

Ted Williams -

Mr. Williams is a past Chief of Chippewas of Rama First Nation, where he currently sits as councillor.  In addition to previous terms as councillor, he has also served as Chairperson of Casino Rama Development in the mid-1990s and on Rama’s Economic Development Commission.  Williams is a consultant, entrepreneur and professional speaker and is a current member of the Ontario Parole Board.  He is a resident of Rama, ON and is being recommended for a 3-year term.

We are very grateful to all those directors leaving the Board following the June AGM, including Jeffrey French who will have completed 7 years on the Board, the past two as Chair, along with Ted Emond (5 years), Penny Bonner (3 years), and Jerry Young (1 year) who have all made tremendous contributions to the success of the hospital.  

Under hospital by-laws, additional nominations can still be submitted by Members of the Corporation up to 30 days prior to the AGM. The deadline for submissions is Saturday, May 27, 2017.  Nomination packages including eligibility requirements are available on the hospital’s website www.osmh.on.ca.
