Multiple celebrations for Regional Kidney Care Program Simcoe Muskoka

Tuesday, May 02, 2017

(May 2, 2017 – Orillia, ON)  The Regional Kidney Care Program Simcoe Muskoka (RKCPSM) took a moment today to celebrate its recent successes and look forward to great things to come including plans to establish a comprehensive electronic medical record (EMR) across all sites.

At a special event held at the Regional Centre at Orillia Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital (OSMH), and shared via teleconference with staff at satellite units in Barrie, Alliston, Collingwood, Midland and Huntsville, the Regional Program announced that Clinical Computing Inc. had been selected as the successful vendor to design and install an EMR over the coming 18 months.

“We’re thrilled to have crossed this significant milestone that will lead to further enhancements in the coordination and quality of care for dialysis patients across the region,” said Marni Van Kessel, RKCPSM Program Director.

In addition to the successful vendor, the Program also announced that the EMR project will officially be named the Regional Dialysis Information System (RDIS), following consultation with staff and the Regional Renal Patient and Family Advisory Council (RRPFAC).  The RDIS will be phased in at each location starting in January 2018.

The Advisory Council, which includes patient representatives from across the region, also took advantage of the opportunity to celebrate its first year anniversary and acknowledge several of the initiatives it has positively influenced.

“Encouraging the relocation of the clinical consultation and education rooms from the busy, main floor of OSMH to a more appropriate area on the 2nd floor of the hospital is one of our most significant accomplishments,” said Lloyd Lancaster, RRPFAC Co-Chair.

The Advisory Council has also been involved in the standardization of patient information and educational material across all sites, and consults on the Meals Made Easy Program, that develops renal friendly food alternatives for dialysis patients.
